An operation on the auricles aimed at eliminating their congenital deformities and size disorders is called otoplasty. Most often, they are performed in cases of folded deformity of the outer ear, deformity of the lobes, and asymmetry. In cases where a certain part or the entire auricle is missing as a result of trauma or a congenital condition, a reconstruction operation is performed to restore it.
If the outer part of the ear is completely missing, otoplasty is performed in two or three stages:
- A section of rib cartilage is used to restore cartilage;
- For skin - skin of the behind the ear or a skin graft from the inner surface of the shoulder.
The most common deformity, according to the statistics of visits, is protruding ears. To eliminate them, during the operation, partial removal of excess cartilage tissue is performed and tightening sutures are applied with non-absorbable suture material. The scar after ear plastic surgery remains cosmetic and is located on the back of the auricle.

Popular queries
Is reconstruction possible with a complete absence of the auricle?
Yes. Today, there are techniques that allow for complete reconstruction of the auricle.
What restrictions will there be after the operation and is a relapse possible?
For 14 days, you need to wear a bandage on your head around the clock and for another two weeks at night. Physical activity is restricted for an average of one month, but in contact sports or martial arts for up to six months. Relapse is possible for a number of reasons independent of the operation, but it is easily eliminated.
