Gynecomastia is a pathological condition characterised by enlarged mammary glands in men. In true gynecomastia, the mammary gland may increase in size and become lumpy. In this case, the patient experiences painful sensation during tactile contact (even with a light touch). There is also false gynecomastia caused by excessive deposition of adipose tissue in the breast area. In case of true gynecomastia, in addition to surgical treatment, correction of hormonal levels is required.
Gynecomastia can be surgically corrected with a lasting, lifelong effect. Correction can be performed from the age of 18. Since the surgical access (incision) runs along the border of the areola, scars after surgery are almost invisible.

What is the danger of gynecomastia?

Long-term true gynaecomastia increases the risk of breast cancer. This disease is not so common in men, but a patient with true gynaecomastia is at increased risk. Mastectomy is the prevention of oncology in men.

People who take steroid hormones (bodybuilders) are at an increased risk of gynaecomastia as a response to taking the hormone from the outside. In response to steroid intake, estrogen is released, which in some cases leads to gynaecomastia. Without surgery, the gland will not be able to return to its previous size.

From the age of 18, it is possible to surgically correct this condition, as the hormonal background already allows it. A prerequisite is a consultation with an endocrinologist and an X-ray of the Turkish saddle area.
